IND vs AUS: Wives of star cricketers turn up at Chepauk to cheer Team India in their World Cup 2023 opener vs Australia

IND vs AUS: Wives of star India cricketers Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin turned up at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) to cheer the Men in Blue in their first match of the World Cup 2023 against Australia on Sunday, October 8.

India, who are aiming to end their 10-year-long ICC title drought, have been asked to bat first in the match. Ashwin's wife Prithi Narayanan and Rohit Sharma's better half Ritika Sajdeh were spotted in the VIP box during the national anthem ceremony. Prithi was accompanied by her daughters.

The match is a momentous occasion for the two oldest members in India's World Cup 2023 squad. Rohit Sharma is leading India in an ODI match for the first time. On the eve of the match, the 36-year-old mentioned that leading India in an ODI World Cup was a "big deal for him".

Ashwin, on the other hand, is playing an ODI match at his home ground for the first time in almost 11 years. He was inducted in India's final World Cup squad just a week before the start of the mega event. The wife and daughters of the 37-year-old were at the venue to make Ashwin's first World Cup match in Chennai a special one.

For a change, the cricket crazy public of the city, kept aside their yellow Chennai Super Kings (CSK) jersey and donned India blue before swarming in the iconic stadium to back the hosts.

India were asked to bowl first by Australia captain Pat Cummins. India are playing the match without opener Shubman Gill who has failed to recover fully from fever. Ishan Kishan would open in the match alongside Rohit Sharma.
