IND vs AUS: The Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under has seen record crowds swarm the venues to view the India-Australia Test action as the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday (January 3) followed Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to break another crowd record.
A few days after the India-Australia Boxing Day Test broke an all-time crowd record for a Test in Australia, the India vs Australia 5th Test has now broken the record for highest day 1 crowd at SCG for any Test between India and Australia.

Cricket Australia and the official X handle for SCG took to social media to announce that over 45,000 have come through the gates of the Sydney Cricket Ground, breaking the highest crowd attendance for day 1 of a Test match between India and Australia at the venue.
"The records keep on falling. Over 45,000 through the gates of the Sydney Cricket Ground on Day 1," Cricket Australia posted on X before SCG posted, "It's a DAY 1 RECORD for any test against India at the SCG! 45,000+ in the house."
Later, Cricket Australia announced the record for any Test at the venue on day 1 was broken after a total of 47,566 crowd was registered, breaking a record held for nearly 50 years at SCG.
The earlier record for day 1 of a Sydney Test between India and Australia was 44,901, which came back in 2004. The overall record for a day in a Test at the SCG is 46,070 on day 5 of a Ashes Test in 2007 between Australia and England.
Earlier, the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia broke an all-time crowd record for any Test in Australia with 373,691 attending the fourth Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Pink Ball Test between the two heavyweights last month also broke a crowd record. 51,642 on day 2 of the Adelaide Test was the highest ever single day crowd at an Australian stadium for a Test match outside the MCG.
Coming back to the SCG Test, India led by Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and elected to bat, but the visitors batters continued to struggle as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul departed early before Shubman Gill fell at the stroke of lunch.
While Virat Kohli soon followed after the interval, Rishabh Pant, who survived some blows, and batted alongside Ravindra Jadeja as the duo remained unbeaten to take India to 107/4 into the tea break on day 1.
