Shreyas Iyer scored a brilliant century against Australia in the 2nd ODI on Sunday (September 24). The rain-marred match in Indore saw Iyer getting to his 3rd ODI century, as India sealed the series with another thumping victory.
Iyer, who has been struggling with a back injury for most of this year, scored a brilliant hundred, which was an eye-catching one. The batter oozed fluency, scored runs all across the pitch, and scored them rapidly.

Iyer's century and partnership with Shubman Gill, who also scored a century, laid the foundation for India to score 399 runs in their 50 overs. And for a knock of 105 off just 90 balls, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain was adjudged the player of the match.
And at the post-match presentation, the batter was asked whether he was looking forward to playing at no. 3 for India in the World Cup as well. Virat Kohli is generally India's undisputed no. 3, and Iyer only batted at that position as Kohli was rested for the first two ODIs against Australia.
But Iyer hailed Kohli and said it is impossible for him to play at Kohli's position, and stated that he would be happy to contribute at whatever position he bats.
"I am flexible, ready to bat any position, whatever my team needs me to do. Virat is one of the greats, there's no chance of stealing that (number 3) spot from him. I just need to keep scoring wherever (any position) I bat," Iyer said.
The 28-year-old has been suffering a back issue for a long time. His back problem meant the player missed the IPL 2023, WTC Championship and part of the Asia Cup. But finally after crossing the hurdle, Iyer says it was a rollercoaster ride.
"It was a rollercoaster ride, feeling fantastic. My teammates, friends and family were there for my support. I was seeing the matches on TV, I wanted to be out there and participate in the matches. Grateful to be believing in myself. The pain and niggles kept on coming, but I knew what I was aiming for. Glad that I was able to execute my plans perfectly today," he added.
It is to be seen where Iyer plays for the upcoming 3rd ODI in Rajkot, as Virat Kohli is set to make a return to the team for that.
