IND vs AUS: 'Stupid, Stupid, Stupid' - Sunil Gavaskar berates Rishabh Pant for Gifting Wicket

By MyKhel Staff

India legend Sunil Gavaskar went no holds barred on Rishabh Pant as the India batter presented his wicket to Australia in Melbourne, in the third day of the 4th Test.

Rishabh Pant made a good start to the day but then threw away his wicket with a bizarre shot, much to the disgust of the pundits at the commentary box.

Rishabh attempted to scoop a full ball from Scott Boland. Although the southpaw intended to hit on the leg side, he only managed a top edge and the ball flew straight at Nathan Lyon, who was stationed at Deep third man. The Australia spinner made no mistake in catching and India lost their 6th wicket, in a crucial juncture of the match.

Rishabh's careless attitude was massively criticized and former India player Sunil Gavaskar was livid with the player. Gavaskar was commentating during Rishabh's wicket and he went berserk on the player. A commentator cam for the broadcasters Grandstand Cricket caught Gavaskar's disgust as he berated Pant on-air.

"Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. You've got two fielders there and you still go for that. That is throwing away your wicket. You have to understand the situation as well. You can't say that is your natural game. I am sorry, that is not your natural shot. That is a stupid shot, and that is letting your team down badly," an angry Gavaskar said.

"He should not be going in the dressing room. He should be going in the other dressing room," the India legend added.

India's blushes have been saved big time though in Melbourne as Nitish Reddy has emerged as India's savior. The youngster has added an unbeaten 105-run partnership for the 8th wicket as India have saved the follow-on. Reddy is unbeaten on 85 and Washington batting on 40 as India are 326 for 7 at Tea on Day 3, leaving them 148 runs behind Australia's first innings total.
