IND vs AUS: Sunil Gavaskar sends clear message to Selectors amid Rohit-Virat struggle

By MyKhel Staff

India legend Sunil Gavaskar has identified the reasons behind Virat Kohli's issues in Australia and has given a huge warning to the selectors.

India currently sit 1-2 trailing the Border Gavaskar Trophy series. With just a match to go, the Indian team find themselves in trouble down under.

Virat Kohli, on whom the expectations were massive, has struggled in the series. After scoring a fighting century in Perth, Kohli has failed to make any telling contributions, with just 62 runs in his next five innings. Gavaskar has identified the issue regarding Kohli, which is stemmed from his lack of foot movement.

"The (Kohli's) foot is not going to the pitch of the ball, the foot is going straight down the pitch, not towards the ball. If the foot goes more towards the ball, you have more chances of hitting the ball from the middle. Because the foot is not moving, you end up reaching for the ball, and that is what has been happening," Gavaskar told India Today.

Apart from Kohli, the other senior pro Rohit Sharma has also struggled. Rohit's numbers are actually worse, as the India captain has only scored 31 runs in five innings in the series, with a shocking average of just 6.20. Gavaskar, when asked about moving on from the stalwarts, says it will all depend on the selectors.

"It all depends on the selectors. The contributions that were expected have not come. It is the top-order which has to contribute, if the top-order is not contributing, why blame the lower order. The seniors have not really made the contribution that they should have, all that they had to do was bat out today and live to fight another day in Sydney," Gavaskar added.

India's final action against Australia is in Sydney, as the final Test of the five-match series starts from January 3.
