Rishabh Pant has been in focus in the ongoing India vs Australia Test match in Melbourne.

The India wicketkeeper-batter was the subject to a passionate dressing down by legendary Sunil Gavaskar in the first innings, when Pant gave his wicket away cheaply.

Pant, in the first innings, gifted his wicket to Australia as he attempted a needless scoop shot. Gavaskar, while commentating at that time, went no holds barred on the player and lambasted him on-air.

"Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. You've got two fielders there and you still go for that. That is throwing away your wicket. You have to understand the situation as well. You can't say that is your natural game. I am sorry, that is not your natural shot. That is a stupid shot, and that is letting your team down badly," an angry Gavaskar said.

And the pattern followed for Pant in the second innings as well. On Day 5, Pant also got dismissed after getting set at the crease. When the team needed Pant to stay with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the middle, he gave away his wicket again. This time Travis Head got the India player as he fell while attempting a big hit.

After Pant's baffling tactics yet again in Melbourne, Sunil Gavaskar started trending on social media. Many fans commented on X that they want to know how the legend will react to Pant throwing away his wicket again.

"Is Rishabh Pant playing in this team just because of Glory of GABBA 2021. Once again a Careless shot from inconsistent Rishabh Pant, now I need the reaction of Sunil Gavaskar," a fan wrote on X.

"The great Sunil Gavaskar was right when he used "stupid! stupid! stupid!" to refer to Pant's batting in the 1st innings. Match awareness is something that Pant still hasn't learned," said another.

India is currently in deep trouble in Melbourne. They have lost three wickets already in the final session of the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar are at the crease with 23 overs still left to play of the day's play.
