IND vs AUS: Australia head coach Andrew McDonald has alleged that India attempted to intimidate 19-year-old Sam Konstas during the dramatic end to Day 1 of the SCG Test on Friday, January 4.
The tense moment unfolded after Konstas got involved in a spat with Jasprit Bumrah, who was visibly frustrated by Usman Khawaja's delay in getting ready to face deliveries.

Bumrah, eager to complete his over to allow India one more before the day's end, appeared to take exception to Khawaja's time-wasting. Konstas, stationed at the non-striker's end, exchanged words with the stand-in Indian captain. Just two balls later, Bumrah dismissed Khawaja, leading to an animated celebration where the Indian players appeared to direct their energy toward Konstas.
McDonald voiced his concerns about the incident, stating he spoke with Konstas after stumps to ensure the young player was mentally prepared to continue. "Clearly, the way India celebrated that was quite intimidating," McDonald said. "It's within the laws of the game and no charges have been laid, but we have a duty of care to our player to ensure he's in the right headspace to perform."
While McDonald stopped short of calling India's actions unsporting, he acknowledged that the celebrations were deemed acceptable by the officials, adding, "I'll leave it up to the ICC and Andy Pycroft, the match referee, to decide the benchmark."
India pacer Prasidh Krishna, speaking to the media after Day 2, dismissed suggestions that Konstas got under India's skin. "We enjoy the way he plays, but if someone says, 'I can fight you,' we want to tell them, 'It's the eleven of us versus you.' If you want to be aggressive, that's fine-we're ready for it," Krishna said, reinforcing the team's united front.
Former cricketers Ricky Ponting and Mark Waugh were critical of Konstas for his involvement in the confrontation. Ponting remarked that Konstas should have left the matter to Khawaja, while Waugh warned the young player about painting a target on his back with such behavior.
The fiery exchange has set the stage for heightened tensions in the ongoing series, with both sides looking to assert dominance in their quest for victory.
