IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli at fault or not? Irfan Pathan and Sanjay Manjrekar Get into Heated Argument over Yashasvi Jaiswal Run Out

By MyKhel Staff

IND vs AUS: The debate surrounding Yashasvi Jaiswal's run-out on Day 4 of the 4th Test between India and Australia has ignited a fiery exchange between former cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan.

The incident occurred after a miscommunication between Jaiswal and Virat Kohli, who were building a promising partnership. However, their mix-up led to Jaiswal being run out at the striker's end, leaving many questioning where the blame lay.

Irfan Pathan Sanjay Manjrekar get into heated argument over Virat Kohli run out

Manjrekar took a firm stance, asserting that Kohli should have taken responsibility for the run. He pointed out that Jaiswal was running at the danger end and that it was Kohli's decision to either accept or decline the single. According to Manjrekar, the ball wasn't travelling too quickly, and Kohli could have easily made it to the other end.

He criticized Kohli's hesitation, suggesting it was a "schoolboy error" for the senior batsman to look back and ultimately reject the run. "Ball was going slow, I don't think Kohli would've been run out. It was Jaiswal's call. Maybe a risky run but he was at the danger end, not Kohli," Manjrekar said, emphasizing that if Jaiswal had made the wrong call, he would have been out at the non-striker's end.

However, Irfan Pathan firmly disagreed with this interpretation, defending Kohli's decision. He argued that the quick movement of the ball toward the fielder, Pat Cummins, likely made Kohli hesitate about taking the single. "Kohli wasn't confident taking the run as he saw how fast the ball was going," Pathan explained. As the non-striker, Pathan argued that Kohli had the right to turn down a risky run if he believed it wasn't feasible. Pathan further added that Kohli could not be entirely blamed, as it was Jaiswal's call in the first place.

The discussion quickly became heated, with the two former players speaking over one another, prompting Manjrekar to retort, "If you don't want to let me talk, it's alright." Manjrekar later made a cutting remark, joking that Pathan's new "interpretation" of whether a run was possible should be added to the coaching manual.

Amidst the tension, Manjrekar went on to speculate that Kohli's dismissal following the run-out incident might have been influenced by a sense of guilt. "Kohli's dismissal probably also down to the guilt he had inside his heart over Jaiswal's run-out," Manjrekar suggested, linking Kohli's loss of concentration to the earlier mix-up.

While the debate continues, it is clear that both sides have strong points of view on the incident, with Kohli's involvement in Jaiswal's run-out remaining a focal point of discussion.
