The match, which will see the winner advancing to the semifinals, turned sour for Kohli, while his teammate Rohit Sharma dazzled with a stunning 19-ball 50, hitting sixes all around the park.

The online trolling intensified as fans expressed their frustration and disappointment with Kohli’s performance. One fan tweeted, "Virat Kohli playing #T20WC2024 only to satisfy his ego. He is not good enough for slow windies pitches in T20's. This WC is a blot on his glorious career!"
Another fan angrily remarked, "Dear Virat Kohli this Spine less BCCI don't have the guts to drop you anymore. Hope you are a gentleman and respect the game please retire before the next match. Thank you for your services."
Criticism continued with a fan stating, "Virat Kohli is ruining his legacy in this T20 worldcup. I said this earlier too opening him was a bad option, agenda won and forced the management Kohli to open inspite being reliable no.3. And some Kohli fans wanted him to open, now went underground."
"Not a single 50 run partnership for Indian opener in this WC. Where are those experts who gave advice to Virat to open," questioned another fan, highlighting the lack of substantial opening stands.
Statistical comparisons were also pointed out, "Three ducks for Virat Kohli in eight innings in T20Is in 2024. In 107 innings in the format before 2024, he had been dismissed without scoring only four times," emphasized a fan.
Another tweet took a dig at Kohli’s IPL performance, "No IPL No party for Kohli. Virat Kohli departs for a 5-ball duck against Australia," suggesting his better performances on flatter IPL pitches.
Earlier in the match, Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first against Rohit Sharma’s India at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet in St Lucia.
Despite the early setback of losing Kohli for a duck, India’s innings was propelled by Rohit Sharma’s blistering 19-ball half-century. Sharma’s onslaught saw him clobbering the Australian bowlers for sixes all around the park, showcasing his elegant yet brutal batting style.
At the time of writing, India stood at 93/2 in 8 overs, with Sharma scoring 76 off just 29 balls. His performance highlighted a stark contrast to Kohli’s struggle, further fueling the online criticism.
