IND vs AUS: What will happen to India's WTC Points Tally if Brisbane Test ends in a Draw? How will it impact WTC Final chances?

By MyKhel Staff

IND vs AUS: Incessant rain and bad light at the Gabba has spoiled the 3rd Test between India and Australia which is now headed for just one conclusion, i.e. a draw.

As the fourth day of the Test match ended, only two innings had been completed, with the Australian bowlers still needing one more wicket to end India's first innings.

IND vs AUS What will happen to India s WTC Points Tally if Brisbane Test ends in a Draw How will it impact WTC Final chances

At stumps on day four, India are still 193 runs behind Australia's first innings score of 445 but their lower-order batters prevented the hosts' plan of enforcing a follow-on, rendering the game with just one logical conclusion.

With a predicted rain-marred affair, if the 3rd Test ends in a draw due to rain interruptions, it will mean the series shall remain 1-1 with two more matches to play. But more than that, it would create a huge issue for the Indian team as they will have to make massive ground in the final two matches.

Here's how a drawn match will affect India's standing in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Points Table:

IND vs AUS 3rd Test Points Sharing

If the match draws in Brisbane, India and Australia will receive 4 points each for the draw. India's total WTC points will increase to 114. India's Points percentage will drop to 55.88%, affecting their chances of climbing the table.

How will be the PCT of India and Australia with the Draw?

India will remain in third place in the WTC Points Table. Australia, with a win percentage (PCT) of 58.88%, will stay in second place. South Africa will continue to lead the table at the top position with a PCT of 63.33.

How can India qualify for WTC Final if Brisbane Test ends in a Draw?

If the 3rd Test at the Gabba ends in a draw, India will have no margin for error in the last two matches.

In that case, India can't afford to lose a match in the last two matches and will have to win at least one of the final two Tests. A drawn match would make their qualification pathway more challenging, leaving no room for further slip-ups in upcoming games. They will have to either win the last two matches, or win one and draw one of the final two encounters to finish above Australia in the WTC table.
