IND vs AUS, World Cup 2023: India will kick off their World Cup 2023 campaign against five-times champions Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
India, the number one ranked ODI team in the world, are the one the favourites to win the tournament. Australia are also one of the contenders and therefore high-voltage clash is on the cards.

India recently defeated Australia 2-1 in the bilateral ODI series, however, they were more of practice matches in which both the teams tried working out their combinations. A number of key players missed matches due to injuries or to avoid one in lead up to the World Cup.
Shubman Gill from India and Marcus Stoinis from Australia are doubtful starters in the match but the remaining big guns are all set to feature in the mouther-watering contest.
Rohit Sharma has hinted that India could play all their three spinners - Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. The wicket at the Chepauk is traditionally known to support spinners.
It rained heavily in parts of Chennai on Saturday, a day before India’s first match of the ICC ODI World Cup match against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Showers have been on and off across the Tamil Nadu capital since last week.
"Bucketing down in Chennai....Very dark," senior commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote on X. However, rain isn't expected to play spoilsport on the matchday.
