Virat Kohli received the best fielder medal after the ICC World Cup 2023 final in which India lost to Australia by 6 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (November 19).

Team India, who were on an unbeaten run of 10 matches, suffered their only defeat in the tournament, in the final after posting just 240, which was chased down by Australia on a picth termed as slow.

Usually a very anticipated moment among players and fans in the ODI World Cup 2023, the best fielder medal ceremony was a rather quiet one following the final heartbreak.

India's fielding coach T Dilip each time came up with new ways to make the award even more special. But this time it was a simple conversation that saw Kohli, who won the first medal in the tournament opener, also bagged the final medal.

Kohli was sensational on the field with his aggressive presence as he cheered on each wicket as if he himself had claimed it and put his body on the line to stop the ball from running towards the boundary.

Dilip praised the whole team for their effort on the field throughout the tournament and also hailed Kohli for his on-field magic before announcing the star batter as the winner of the best fielder medal, which he received from Ravindra Jadeja.

"During the course of the tournament I think we took some brilliant catches but what I really liked is the brotherhood we shared on the field," Diplip said in a video posted by the BCCI.

"The way each one supported each other the way everyone was backing that's outstanding to see and I see only growing up as a team on the field and today's winner he's been a terrific player.

"He sets himself up great standards and every time he goes on the field he does magic and the best part is that he not only does his job so well but his actions inspire so many people and it is none other than Virat Kohli."

Dilip also made an inspirational speech to cheer up the players ensuring that even after ending up on the losing side the players can be proud of themselves.

"Guys, I know it is tough and we all feel the pain but that's what it is. We did everything possibly right and still the result is not in our favour. But I think Rahul (Dravid) bhai said we can all be proud of ourselves," Dilip added.

"I appreciate and thank every player in this group who have committed in the practice sessions. The way you put yourself on the line, you put intent and energy. I couldn't ask more than this. Well done."
