WTC Final 2023: Twitter hails Steve Smith after 31st Test Century

Steve Smith has registered his 31st Test century on Thursday (June 8). The batter reached the milestone in the very first over of Day 2 against India as Australia continues to pile run mountain at the Oval.

With his hundred, Smith has now become the third-highest centurion in red ball format for the Aussies. With 31 centuries, Smith is only behind Steve Waugh (32) and Ricky Ponting (41) in the list. Smith was unbeaten on 95 overnight, and took no time to get to three-figure mark.

The batter hit the very first ball for four from Mohammed Siraj, and then backed it up with a flick of the wrist to get another boundary which brought his century. With his century, Smith also becomes the joint-highest centurion against India with 9 centuries.

After his hundred, Twitter hailed the Australian batter for his resilient inning which has given Australia a fantastic platform in the WTC Final. Here are some of the reactions-

This is also Steve Smith's 3rd Test century at the Oval. The Aussie batter's merry run in London continues.

Commentator Harsha Bhogle thinks India gifted Smith his century. He believes the bowling should have been better.

"Afraid that was a hundred gifted to Steve Smith this morning. He would have spent a lot of time thinking of getting there and he got presented two volleys. A nice way to cap a fabulous, controlled innings," Bhogle wrote on his tweet.
