Mayank Yadav made a memorable debut for India in the opening T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday in Gwalior, as India triumphed by 7 wickets. The young Delhi pacer, who made his debut in this match, impressed with both his control and pace, helping his team take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Speaking on JioCinema after the match, Mayank revealed what advice he received from Gautam Gambhir that helped calm his nerves, "Nothing extra, he [Gambhir] asked me to stick to the basics and do the things that have yielded positive results for me in the past. He asked me not to think much about trying different things or even think that it was an international game. Following the process was the key," Yadav shared.

Yadav, known for his raw pace, made history by becoming only the third Indian bowler to deliver a maiden over on his T20I debut, joining the ranks of Ajit Agarkar and Arshdeep Singh. He also claimed the crucial wicket of Mahmudullah, sending the experienced Bangladesh batter back to the pavilion in his second over.
Despite being known for his express pace, Yadav smartly focused on accuracy and variation, adjusting to the conditions in Gwalior. His fastest delivery clocked in at 149.9 km/h, but he also bowled slower deliveries, adapting to a pitch that offered little bounce.
His approach helped him finish with impressive figures of 1 for 21 in his four overs. Speaking after the match, Yadav revealed he was nervous before his international debut, especially after not having played competitive cricket since his IPL injury.
"I was indeed excited but was a bit more nervous. This series marked my comeback after the injury. I didn't play competitive cricket and then directly made my debut. That's why I was a little more nervous," Yadav said in an interview with Jio Cinema.
He further explained that his recovery from injury was a challenging period: "The recovery period was tough for me. Quite a lot of ups and downs were there in the last 4 months. But more than me, it was tougher for the people who worked with me."
In his debut match, Mayank Yadav chose precision over sheer pace, focusing on delivering accurate line and length, a strategy that paid off as India secured a convincing victory.
