India's senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin matched legendary Shane Warne for second most five wicket hauls in Test cricket with a fifer against Bangladesh in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
R Ashwin achieved the feat when he dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who holed out to Ravindra Jadeja at long on. The 38-year-old, who is second highest wicket-taker for India in Tests, is now only behind spin great Muttiah Muralitharan for most fifers in Test cricket.

Ashwin, who started the Chennai Test tied with former New Zealand pacer Sir Richard Hadlee on 36 five wicket hauls, claimed his 37th fifer in Tests with the wickets of Mehidy, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan.
With latest fifer, Ashwin also became the oldest Indian player at 38 year plus to claim a five wicket haul in Test cricket, surpassing Vinoo Mankad's feat, which was achieved back in 1955.
38y 5d - R Ashwin vs Bangladesh in Chennai (2024)
37y 306d - Vinoo Mankad vs Pakistan in Peshawar (1955)
37y 70d - Anil Kumble vs Australia in Melbourne (2007)
Ashwin, who had scored a match-winning century in the first innings, matched his feat from the previous outing in his home venue of a hundred and a five-wicket haul as India claimed a massive 280-run victory to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series.
The veteran India off-spinner (522 wickets) also surpassed West Indies great Courtney Walsh's tally of 519 wickets to climb to eigth in the list for most wickets in Test cricket. He is now eight wickets behind Australian spinner Nathan Lyon, who has 530 wickets to his name.
Ashwin made a back-on-the-wall hundred on the first day of the opening Test to rescue India from a precarious 144 for six in the company of an equally resolute Ravindra Jadeja, who scored a valuable 86.
Jasprit Bumrah then starred with the ball to bundle out Bangladesh for 149 before Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill cleansed months of hurt, anxiety and disappointments of varying nature with emotional hundreds on the third day to place India in a prime position.
Chasing a huge target of 515, Bangladesh succumbed to the Indian spinners Ashwin (6 for 88) and Jadeja (3 for 58), getting bowled out for 234 on the penultimate day of the series opener.
Ashwin and India will look to carry on the winning run when they next take on Bangladesh in the second and final Test, scheduled to be held at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27.
