India closed in on sealing a massive win over Bangladesh in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday (September 21). But, all eyes will be on the weather on Sunday (September 22) as India aims to take a 1-0 lead in the 2-Test series.
Defending a mammoth fourth innings target of 515, India reduced Bangladesh to 154/4 at stumps on Day 3. Rohit Sharma's men need just six wickets to complete the win, but will rain or weather delay their result in Chennai?

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) had forecast that Chennai will experience light to moderate rain from September 20th to 25th. While the weather has remained kind for the last two days, it has the potential to impact Day 4 and Day 5 of the match.
According to AccuWeather, the sky is expected to be cloudy for most of the day 4 (Sunday, September 22) with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely in the morning before the start of play.
There may be a delay to start of play, but with only six wickets needed to seal the win, India will hope they get at least two sessions of play to get their desired result. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will hope rain washes out the remainder of the IND vs BAN 1st Test.

Coming back to the Chennai Test, India rode on Ravichandran Ashwin's century to post 376 in the first innings before Jasprit Bumrah bundled out the visitors for 149 to hand the hosts a substantial lead.
After declining to enforce follow-on, India swelled their lead thanks to centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant before declaring at 287/4 and setting a target of 515 for Bangladesh to win the Test with more than two more days of play left.
Rohit & Co declared with forecast of rain. They also reduced Bangladesh to 158 for 4 before the close of play on day 3. The Men in Blue will now look to extend their lead at the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings with a win on Sunday (September 22).
