IND vs BAN 2024: Ravichandran Ashwin on Cusp of Achieving Several Milestones in Kanpur Test Against Bangladesh

Seasoned cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of the most dependable pillars of India's Test set-up for a decade, ticking the boxes both a bowler and a batsman. Be it delivering the goods with the ball or when called upon to bat, he has been a key player in India's Test setup.

The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer's batting has also improved significantly over time, and his recent century against Bangladesh is a testament to his progress. He adopted a counter-attacking brand of cricket and maintained a strike rate of over 90, showing his intent and confidence at the crease when the top-order had a bad day at the office.

In that same Chepauk Test, his all-round brilliance was on full display as he took six wickets to his name. This all-rounder performance earned him the well-deserved "Man of the Match" award.

As India gears up for the next Test against Bangladesh begins at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on September 27, Ravi Ashwin will be eyeing several milestones.

Milestones Ravichandran Ashwin can surpass in IND vs BAN 2024 Kanpur Test

1. R Ashwin could surpass Shane Warne's fifers' tally: One of the major milestones Ravi Ashwin will be targeting is to edge past the legendary Shane Warne in terms of five-wicket hauls in Tests.

For the record, both Ashwin and Warne currently have 37 fifers to their names. If Ashwin manages to grab one more fifer in the Kanpur Test, he will claim the second-most five-wicket hauls in Test cricket history, which would place him behind only Muttiah Muralitharan, who holds the record with an astounding 67 fifers.

2. On the cusp of Becoming India's leading Wicket-Taker vs Bangladesh: Ashwin has already proved that he is worth the weight in gold as a bowler against Bangladesh. Overall, he has accounted for 29 dismissals against the opponent in Tests so far.

Meanwhile, he is now just 3 wickets away from surpassing Zaheer Khan's tally of 31 wickets to become India's leading wicket-taker against Bangladesh in Tests. Taking his current form and how much he enjoys bowling in subcontinental conditions, it seems very likely that he will reach this milestone in the Kanpur Test.

3. Ashwin closes in on Key Batting Milestones: Apart from eyeing bowling feats, Ashwin is also on the brink of achieving significant batting milestones. Overall, he scored 270 runs against Bangladesh in Tests so far and is just 26 runs away from surpassing Murali Vijay's tally of 295 runs.

Furthermore, he is 76 runs short of going past Ajinkya Rahane's total of 345 runs against Bangladesh. Taking his recent batting form into account, it is highly likely that Ashwin could chip in with batting contributions in the Kanpur Test.
