IND vs BAN 2024: Ravindra Jadeja eyes 'Multiple Milestones' versus Bangladesh

Ravindra Jadeja has been a vital asset for the Indian cricket team for more than a decade wherein he carved out a reputation for himself as one of the best bowling all-rounders in the game.

Be it delivering with the ball or chipping in with crucial runs lower down the order or thriving on the field, Jadeja's contributions as a three-dimensional asset has often been match-defining. The 35-year-old seasoned cricketer will be next seen in action for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

The first Test between India and Bangladesh will get underway on September 19, Thursday at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai whereas the second Test will kick off on September 27 at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. As Team India gears up for the Bangladesh Test battle, Ravindra Jadeja stands on the brink of achieving some remarkable milestones.

1. Joining the Elite "3000 Runs and 300 Wickets" Club: The Navagam-born cricketer is only six wickets away from achieving a monumental feat - joining the elite club of players who have done the double of scoring 3000 runs and taking 300 wickets in Test cricket.

With 294 wickets to his name, the senior pro is closing in on this milestone, and if he manages to get six more wickets in the series, he will become only the third Indian to achieve the double. The two Indian legends who have already achieved this remarkable feat are Kapil Dev (5248 runs, 434 wickets) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3309 runs, 516 wickets).

2. Could surpass MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag and Shreyas Iyer: For the record, Ravindra Jadeja's contributions with the bat down the order have often flown under the radar.

Overall, Jadeja has hit two fifties against Bangladesh in Tests, which is on par with the likes of MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag and Shreyas Iyer, who also have two fifties apiece against the same opposition. If Jadeja manages to score another fifty in the upcoming series, he will go past the aforementioned names.

3. Closing in on MS Dhoni, Sehwag and Shreyas Iyer's run-tally vs Bangladesh: In terms of runs against Bangladesh, Jadeja is also in the hunt to edge past the likes of Dhoni, Sehwag and Iyer.

Former Indian cricketers, MS Dhoni and Sehwag scored 193 runs (3 Tests) and 176 runs (4 Tests) against Bangladesh whereas Iyer who was excluded for the upcoming Chepauk Test scored 202 runs in two matches against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Jadeja who scored 148 runs in three Tests at an astonishing average of 148 is 55 runs away from surpassing Dhoni, Sehwag and Iyer's run-tally versus Bangladesh. The all-rounder could very well achieve this milestone in the upcoming series.
