IND vs BAN 2024: Three milestones Ravichandran Ashwin can achieve in Test series vs Bangladesh

IND vs BAN 2024: India's premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the players to watch out for in the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The senior pro is known for his dominance in Tests, especially in spin-friendly conditions.

The Test opener is slated to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on September 19. Ashwin is expected to weave the magic with the ball in his hometown. He will head into the Test with a certain advantage since he knows the conditions of this ground very well.

Overall, he has played 100 Tests and has taken more than 500 wickets, including 36 five-wickets. On the other side of the coin, he scored 3309 runs, laced with five centuries and 14 fifties. With the series set to begin this month, Ashwin will be eyeing multiple records in the Test series.

1) Can go past Sehwag, Dhawan and Dhoni

Ashwin is not just a world-class bowler but also a handy lower-order batter. He has mustered 157 runs against Bangladesh in Tests, including a match-winning fifty in a solitary Test in 2022. If he scores 37 more runs in the upcoming series, he will edge past the run tallies of Shikhar Dhawan (173), Virender Sehwag (176), and MS Dhoni (193) against Bangladesh. In addition to that, if Ashwin manages to score a fifty in the series, he would equal the fifty tally of Dhoni (2) and Sehwag (2) against the Tigers.

2) Can script history against Bangladesh

Ravichandran Ashwin has a great opportunity to become the leading Indian Test wicket-taker against Bangladesh. As things stand, the veteran cricketer is third on the list of Indian bowlers with the most wickets against the Tigers as he accounted for 23 dismissals. He is just three wickets away from surpassing Ishant Sharma's 25 wickets and 9 wickets away from going past Zaheer Khan's 31 wickets. The 37-year-old would be looking forward to bringing his A-game in the Test series in order to etch his name into the record books.

3) Can surpass Courtney Walsh's Test Wickets tally

The Tamil Nadu-born is also on the verge of going past Courtney Walsh's Test wicket tally. The former West Indies' fast bowler Walsh has taken 519 wickets in his Test career, while Ashwin has 516 wickets to his credit. Meanwhile, the Indian off-spinner needs just four more wickets to go past the West Indies' bowling great's tally.
