IND vs BAN 2024: Three reasons why captain Rohit Sharma could up the ante in Test series vs Bangladesh

IND vs BAN 2024: Indian captain Rohit Sharma was last seen in the three-match ODI series during the team's tour of Sri Lanka, which the Men in Blue lost by a 2-0 margin. The senior cricketer will be next seen in action for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, Team India have fared well in the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship with six wins, two defeats and a draw. Cut to the chase, let's take a look at three reasons why Rohit Sharma could come up trumps against Bangladesh.

1. Determination to succeed against the Tigers: The senior pro is aware of the fact that he hasn't quite given the Bangladeshi bowlers a run for their money as far as Test cricket is concerned. In the three Test appearances against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma fell prey to cheap scores, mustering only 33 runs at an average of 11. Having failed to bring his A-game against this opposition, Rohit Sharma will be determined to make his presence count in the series.

2. Decent record in Chepauk and Kanpur: The Chepauk hasn't quite been Rohit Sharma's hunting ground, especially in limited-overs cricket. He also failed to operate in top gear when he played his first Test in Chepauk where he managed to score 6 and 12 against England in 2021. However, he managed to turn it around by scoring an impeccable 161 in the second Test against England at the same venue, which came in a winning cause.

Rohit will be eager to score another big knock at Chepauk, where he recently turned the tables with a memorable 161 against England. The second Test against Bangladesh will be held in Kanpur, a venue where he has previously performed decently well. In the 2016 Test against New Zealand at Kanpur, he made significant contributions with scores of 35 and an unbeaten 68 while batting in the middle order. His past performances at these venues will boost his confidence as he aims to do well in the upcoming series.

3. Experience and leadership skills: Rohit Sharma-led Indian team are on top of the WTC points table with six wins, two defeats and a draw, collecting 74 points. On the contrary, Bangladesh are sixth on the standings with 24 points. The Nagpur-born brings a wealth of experience to the table, both as a batsman and a leader.

The captain is totally aware of the fact that Bangladesh are the team not to be taken lightly, especially after the Tigers recently scripted history by registering their first-ever Test win over Pakistan. As a result, Rohit Sharma will make strategic decisions under pressure in the hope of churning positive results.
