IND vs BAN 2nd Test Why has toss been delayed in Kanpur despite no rain? When will match start?

IND vs BAN 2nd Test: The toss ahead of the second India vs Bangladesh Test in Kanpur was delayed despite no rain in the morning of Friday, September 27. However, it rained overnight and the delay was caused due to some dampness on the ground.

Two super-soppers were deployed to dry the outfield under overcast conditions in Kanpur. Groundsmen were also seen working on the pitch and the run-up area near the Press Box. Ravindra Jadeja walked to the pitch and tried getting the feel of the black soil surface.

An inspection was scheduled at 9:30 AM as several India players waited for action near the boundary rope. After the inspection it was decided that the toss will take place at 10:00 AM and the first ball will be bowled at 10:30 AM.

As the toss was delayed, head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel walked in the middle to get a feel of the conditions.

Captain Rohit Sharma was seen talking with match referee Jeff Crowe with Rishabh Pant standing near him and paying eager attention to the conversation.

Later, Virat Kohli also came out to knock some balls and warm-up. Jasprit Bumrah also walked up to the pitch and had a close look at the much-talked about surface.

Murali Karthik in his pitch report reckoned that India would look to bat first if they win the toss despite the overcast conditions. Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who is part of the broadcast team, also agreed that Rohit could opt to bat first.

Rain predictions have been made for the first three days of the Test. The last two days are expected to be free from rain.

India are looking to win the second Test to complete a 2-0 win over Bangladesh. The hosts have not lost a Test match in Kanpur since 1983.

The Kanpur Test is in focus for various other reasons as well. Ravindra Jadeja is one wicket away from his 300th Test scalp, and Virat Kohli is 129 runs away from 9000 runs in the format. The Test match could also be veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's last in the format.

He has expressed his intention to retire in the upcoming home Test series against South Africa. However, uncertainty looms due to the security concerns of the star cricketer in Bangladesh.
