Hasan Mahmud wreaked havoc in the Indian batting on Day 1 of Bangladesh's opening Test against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. On Thursday, September 19, after the Tigers opted to field first on what is historically a pitch for the spinners at the Chepauk, the young fast bowler bowled his heart out and set the cat amongst the pigeons in the Indian dugout.
Mahmud came into the series after picking up his maiden five-wicket haul in the second Test against Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. He carried on from where he left off in Bangladesh's historic Test series against Shan Masood's men. The 24-year-old Mahmud started his India tour with an opening spell of 7-2-14-3 and then another wicket after lunch.

Hasan Mahmud unleashes hell at Chepauk
Mahmud started making inroads after getting rid of Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper. Mahmud bowled one around the off-stump and Rohit found an outside edge straight into the hands of Najmul Hossain Shanto, who took a simple catch in the slip cordon.
In his very next over, Mahmud sent back Shubman Gill, who is deemed as a prospect to become India's captain in the future. Ther speedster bowled one down the leg side, but all Gill could manage was an inside edge after which Litton Das completed the formalities with a simple catch.
Rohit made six runs off 19 balls with a four before departing. Mahmud kept growing in stature after pinning Virat Kohli, who returned to Test cricket since last playing in the Test series against South Africa earlier this year.
Kohli went for an expansive drive outside the off-stump and found a thick outside edge. Litton did not make any mistake in taking an easy catch. Kohli departed after scoring only six runs off as many balls. Mahmud's initial burst had left India reeling at 34 for the loss of three wickets in 9.2 overs.
His latest victim was Rishabh Pant after the lunch break. A promising inning came to an abrupt end with a soft dismissal. Mahmud bowled short and wide for the third ball of the 26th over, and Pant, with a casual attempt, edged it to the wicketkeeper.
