IND vs BAN: Hasan Mahmud on Friday, September 20 became the first bowler from Bangladesh to register a Test five-fer in India. The 24-year-old achieved the feat after picking the wicket of Jasprit Bumrah to wrap up India's first innings at 376 early in the first session of Day 2.
The young quick had rattled the Indian top-order on Thursday, picking each of the first four wickets. He first dismissed India captain Rohit Sharma, and then capitalised with the wickets of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

His figures of 5/83 in 22.2 overs are the best by a Bangladesh bowler on Indian soil. Pacer Abu Jayed’s 4/108 in Indore in 2019 was the previous best figures by a Bangladesh bowler in a Test innings against India.
Overall, Hasan Mahmud is only the fifth Bangladesh bowler to register a Test five-wicket haul against India. Spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraza, who dismissed KL Rahul in the ongoing Test, last picked a five-fer during India's 2022 tour of Bangladesh.
Further, Hasan Mahmud also has joint second-highest number five-fers in Test cricket among Bangladesh pacers. He achieved the feat in just his fourth Test match. The Laxmipur-born cricketer also picked a five-fer in the second innings of his last outing against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
Courtesy the spell of Mahmud, Bangladesh pacers ended up picking nine or more wickets in a Test innings for only the sixth time in history.
