Hasan Mahmud has been exceptional in the first Test against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. On Day 1 at the Chepauk, the fast bowler ran through the Indian top order with a fiery opening spell of 7-2-14-3. He took another wicket after lunch.
After being asked to bat first, Rohit Sharma's India found themselves reeling at 34 for three in 9.2 overs. Mahmud started making inroads after dismissing Rohit, who feathered one to Najmul Hossain Shanto in the slips.

Thereafter, the pacer got rid of Shubman Gill, who failed to open his account. Mahmud kept showing his calibre after sending back the dangerous Virat Kohli, who played a loose shot outside the off-stump to be caught by Litton Das. His spell continued after lunch as this time Rishabh Pant fell victim.
Hasan Mahmud's rise through the ranks
Back in 2020, Mahmud forayed into international cricket in the T20I series against Zimbabwe on Bangladeshi soil. He impressed right away and made his ODI debut in the very next year. However, the Tigers did not rush him into Test cricket.
In fact, Hasan had to wait three more years before he donned the whites for the Tigers. He got his first taste of the purest format earlier this year in April against Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
He joined a talented bunch of Bangladeshi pacers, also involving the likes of Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana and Ebadot Hossain. Mahmud took a four-wicket haul in the second Test against Sri Lanka and he has not looked back since then.
The series against Pakistan turned out to be a game-changer for Mahmud. He finished with figures of 10.4-1-43-5 in the second innings of the second Test in Rawalpindi, helping Bangladesh win by six wickets. The Tigers also went on to win the series 2-0.
Mahmud has also played 41 matches in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) while playing for the Rangpur Riders and Dhaka Dynamites, picking up 40 wickets at an economy rate of 8.55.
