While the Men in Blue have played 34 Tests at the Chennai stadium, they have just played two matches at the venue since the introduction of the World Test Championship in 2019. India last played a red ball game in Chennai during the COVID pandemic in 2021.

Now as India returns to the venue for another Test in the WTC, here is a look at their numbers and results from MA Chidambaram Stadium ahead of IND vs BAN 1st Test:

Like their overall record, India also possess a mixed record in the WTC at the Chepauk. In 2021, under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India faced England in back-to-back Tests at the Chennai venue in February. Here is how the Tests panned out:

India vs England 1st Test in 2021 (February 5-9)

The home side suffered a dissapointing loss after Joe Root's spectacular double ton inspired England to a massive 227 runs win with the match ending on the fifth and final day in Chennai.

Opting to bat first, England rode on then skipper Root's 218 and couple of 80-run knocks from Dom Sibley (87) and Ben Stokes (82) to post a mammoth first innings total of 578. For India, hometown's Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets.

In response, Cheteshwar Pujara (73), Rishabh Pant (91) and Washington Sundar (85*) helped the home team fight early set back, but could only help post a total of 337, handing the visitors a big lead of 241 runs. For England, spinner Dom Bess claimed four wickets.

Despite taking a substantial lead and having the option to enforce follow-on, England opted to bat in the third innings, but fell to Ashwin as the senior Indian spinner claimed 6 wickets to bundle the visitors for 178. However, England already had enough runs to defend.

Chasing 420 in the final four sessions of the match, India were bowled out for 192 as Jack Leach (4/76) and James Anderson (3/17) combined for seven wickets. Kohli (72) and Shubman Gill (50) were the lone contributors in the unsuccessful chase for India.

India vs England 2nd Test in 2021 (February 13-16)

Team India bounced back in style as they rode on all-round brilliance from hometown's Ashwin to level the series with a massive 317-run victory at the Chepauk and earned the result inside four days of the Test.

Opting to bat first as expected on the challenging surface, India rode on Rohit Sharma's knock of 161 and a couple of fifties from Ajinkya Rahane (67) and Pant (58*) to post 329 in the first innings. Moeen Ali (4/128) and Olly Stone (3/47) accounted for seven Indian wickets.

England were shot down for a paltry 134 after Ashwin claimed a five-wicket haul. India took a 195-run lead into their second innings and added another 286 thanks to Ashwin's century.

Chasing 482 in the fourth innings, England faced a daunting task and succumbed to the Indian spin as the trio of Axar Patel (5/60), Ashwin (3/53) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/25) bundled out the visitors for 164 on day 4.
