IND vs BAN: In a significant turn of events, India's scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh is now expected to be postponed, owing to diplomatic sensitivities between the two nations.
The tour - comprising three ODIs and three T20Is - was initially set to begin on August 17 in Dhaka. However, according to a recent report by AFP, the series is now in limbo as it awaits clearance from the Indian government.

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not made any formal announcement yet, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media committee chairman Iftikhar Rahman has acknowledged that discussions are underway regarding a potential deferment. "The tour is part of the FTP (International Cricket Council's Future Tours Programme), so cancellation is not an option. But it may be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time," Rahman stated, without offering additional specifics.
Reports suggest that the Indian cricket team is awaiting necessary approvals from New Delhi, especially in light of recent political upheaval in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted following a mass uprising in August 2024. This tense backdrop has heightened the need for governmental go-ahead before the Indian side can confirm participation.
Interestingly, this series was expected to mark a major moment in Indian cricket, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma possibly returning to the ODI squad after stepping away from Test cricket earlier this year. The duo had also retired from T20Is following India's victorious 2024 T20 World Cup campaign in the Caribbean. If the tour is eventually confirmed, fans will be eager to see if both veterans feature in the final squads.
Bangladesh last visited India in September-October 2024 for a short tour comprising two Tests and two T20Is. The anticipated white-ball leg in Dhaka was poised to be a significant follow-up, but its future now hinges on diplomatic clearance and discussions between both boards.
