IND vs BAN: KL Rahul's pressure is 'Strange' and 'Unfair', says Tamim Iqbal

By MyKhel Staff

Former Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal opined his blatant thoughts on the talks of pressure on KL Rahul in the ongoing 2nd Test between India and Bangladesh.

KL Rahul returned to the Indian team after a brief hiatus due to his form. The batter was dropped from the T20 and ODI squad but made a comeback in the longest format of the game.

Amid talks of pressure on him, Rahul played a brilliant knock in the 1st innings in Kanpur. The stylish batter scored 68 runs off just 43 balls, consisting of 7 fours and 2 sixes. The 32-year-old showcased his class with some exquisite shots and helped India to maintain their rapid scoring rate in the rain-marred Test match.

The Karnataka batter has been under scrutiny for lack of runs in Red Ball cricket, but Bangladesh legend Tamim Iqbal thinks the pressure on Rahul is strange and lamented for making the batter a scapegoat, which is not fair.

"Unfortunately, in every team, there are one or two players who are always under pressure. If you go back and see their stats, they've done well. But, one game without scoring, and for some strange reason we put them under pressure. In the Indian team, KL Rahul is that person. He fails in one or two games, and people start talking about it and questioning his position. I think that's not very fair," Iqbal said while speaking with JioCinema.

Despite Tamim's certificate, Rahul's performance in Test cricket is not sky-high. The India batter has had a modest outing in the last two years, averaging 28.60 (2023) and 17.12 (2022) respectively.

Although Rahul has been excellent in some instances, the India batter needs to be a lot more consistent to cement his place in the middle-order of the Test team.
