IND vs BAN: KL Rahul to Start Ahead of Sarfaraz Khan Against Bangladesh? Here's The Possible Explanation Why

By MyKhel Staff

In a much-debated decision, seasoned cricketer KL Rahul will be selected over the in-form Sarfaraz Khan for the additional batter's slot in India's playing XI for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

According to reports, Rahul's experience and recent performances have earned him the nod from the Indian management ahead of the first Test, set to begin on September 19 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

IND vs BAN KL Rahul to Start Ahead of Sarfaraz Khan Against Bangladesh Here s The Possible Explanation Why

KL Rahul's Experience Edges Out Sarfaraz's Form

Despite Sarfaraz Khan's red-hot form in domestic cricket, it is Rahul's track record in the longer format that has ultimately tilted the scales in his favour. With Rohit Sharma leading the side and Rishabh Pant set to return as the wicket-keeper, there was only one available spot left in the middle order.

The choice between Rahul and Sarfaraz was closely contested, but Rahul's recent match fitness and proven ability in tough overseas conditions helped him secure the spot.

A BCCI source highlighted Rahul's performances during India's South Africa tour and in domestic cricket, suggesting that his experience is vital for India's Test ambitions. The source was quoted saying, "In his last three Test matches, KL scored a century in South Africa, one of the best Test knocks in recent times, and 86 at Hyderabad in the last Test he played before injury."

Match Fitness and Technique Give Rahul the Advantage

Rahul has been recovering from an injury that kept him out of recent international matches, but his half-century in the Duleep Trophy and regular match time have reinforced his place in the squad. According to the same BCCI source, "He was not dropped but got injured. Now he is fit, scored a fifty in Duleep, and got match time, so he will start."

This decision also appears to be influenced by the upcoming high-profile series against Australia, where Rahul's technique and experience will be crucial. The selectors view the Bangladesh series as a key opportunity for him to get valuable game time before the much-anticipated Australia series.

Tough Call for Sarfaraz

While Sarfaraz Khan has been prolific in the domestic circuit, his exclusion from the starting XI will come as a disappointment to his fans and supporters. The young batter has been knocking on the door for a place in India's Test side for some time, and his impressive first-class average continues to garner attention. However, with India's top order looking relatively settled and Rahul's return to full fitness, Sarfaraz will have to wait for his opportunity.

India's Preparation for Upcoming Test Campaigns

As the Indian team gears up to face Bangladesh, they will be aiming for a strong start to the series. The two-match series is crucial not only for India's World Test Championship ambitions but also as a platform for Rahul to regain form ahead of the Australia tour. With Shubman Gill set to bat at number three and Rahul likely to slot into the middle order, the focus will be on India's experienced batters to deliver.

For Rahul, this series presents an opportunity to re-establish himself in the Indian Test side, especially with Sarfaraz waiting in the wings and mounting pressure on senior players to perform consistently. All eyes will be on Rahul as India seeks to continue its dominance in Test cricket and prepare for a hat-trick of series wins in Australia.
