IND vs BAN: R Ashwin credits This tournament after Century, confirms Rishabh Pant tactics

Ravichandran Ashwin played a magnificent knock on Thursday (September 19) in the first Test against Bangladesh.

The India all-rounder notched up his 6th Test century at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in front of his family and friends at his home ground.

It was a special batting performance from Ashwin, who managed to glide through the Bangladesh bowling attack and is unbeaten at the end of day's play. Ashwin is currently unbeaten on 102 off just 112 balls. The class all-rounder will be hoping to continue his batting on the next day.

On the day, it was Ashwin's superb punch from the corner which turned things around for India. The hosts were struggling at 144 for six and it was Ashwin who continued playing his shots and cornered the Bangladeshi attack, who were looking rampant at that stage. Ashwin batted with a strike rate of 91, which speaks volumes of the class of the knock.

After the match, the India all-rounder credited the Tamil Nadu Premier League for the new avatar of his batting. The India batter also confirmed of emulating Rishabh Pant's brand of playing shots.

"It helps that I have come back at the back of a T20 tournament (TNPL), worked quite a bit on my batting. Of course, I have always been wafting my bat around outside off-stump. Worked on a few things and on a surface like this with a bit of spice, if you're going after the ball, might as well go after it really hard like Rishabh does. It's an old Chennai surface with a bit of bounce and carry. The red soil pitch allows you to play a few shots if you are willing to just get in line and give it a bit of a tonk when there's width," Ashwin said after the match.

The veteran player's magnificent show came in front of his family and friends. Chennai has been Ashwin's breeding ground and the player says it was special to score consecutive centuries in front of his very own supporters.

"Always a special feeling to play in front of the home crowd. This is a ground I completely love to play cricket in. It's given me a lot of wonderful memories," he added.

Ashwin was amazing in the TNPL 2024. The veteran played some terrific knocks for his team Dindigul Dragons and batted at a breakneck speed throughout the season.
