IND vs BAN: Ravichandran Ashwin's blazing knock in the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai came to an end at 113 off 133 balls on Friday, September 20. Ashwin walked back to the pavilion amid a standing ovation after getting caught out while trying to play the ball over the mid-off fielder.
Batting at his home ground in Chennai, Ashwin hit his sixth Test hundred to rescue India, who were staring down the barrel at 144/6 on the opening day. Bangladesh pacers were on fire after their captain opted to bowl first on the red-soil surface. With moisture on the pitch, and conditions also overcast, Bangladesh fast bowled Hasan Mahmud ran through the Indian top-order.

It was then that the local boy walked in the middle with a huge cheer from the fans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk). He played a stunning counter-attacking knock which saw him smash a 108-ball hundred.
The innings which consisted of 11 fours and two sixes witnessed Ashwin hammering the pumped up Bangladesh pacer a strike rate close to 80. The timing was sublime, and the 38-year-old played a couple of flamboyant T20 shots as well. In the interaction after the end of Day 1, the veteran all-rounder, who also has 516 Test wickets to his name, credited Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) outings also for his success in the first innings.
Ashwin's cricket-loving father was also in the ground as he completed a second consecutive Test hundred at his home venue. He surpassed his previous score of 106 runs which came off 148 balls.
Ashwin stitched a 199-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja for the seventh wicket as India finished their innings at 376. After finishing Day 1 at 339/6, India were hoping to take their score past 400, but Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed picked three quick wickets to wrap up India's innings early in the first session of Day 2.
