IND vs BAN: Ravindra Jadeja misses out on his 5th Test hundred after rescuing India in Chennai

By MyKhel Staff

IND vs BAN: Ravindra Jadeja's gritty first innings knock came to an end in the third over of Day 2 as he missed out on his fifth Test hundred by 14 runs. His dismissal also brought an end to the 199-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Ravichandran Ashwin and him.

Ravindra Jadeja, who was unbeaten on 86 off 117 balls, edged a delivery from Taskin Ahmed which was angling away from him. He tried pushing the delivery forward without any feet moment, and in the process ended up edging the ball for a simple catch to wicket-keeper Litton Das.

The star all-rounder had walked out in the middle when India were five down for 144. After KL Rahul's dismissal at the same score, Ashwin joined him in the middle, and the duo successfully executed a rescue act which helped them finish at 339/6 at the end of Day 1 of the ongoing opening Test in Chennai.

Jadeja's counter attacking knock consisted of 10 fours and two sixes. Playing his first match after the T20 World Cup 2024 final, Jadeja showed no signs of rustiness and used his feet brilliantly against the Bangladesh spinners. His presence in the middle helped Ashwin also play his shots freely.

The 199-run partnership between the duo is India's fourth-highest partnership for any wicket against Bangladesh. Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay hold the record with a 283-run stand in 2015. Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid partnered for 259 in 2004, while Dravid also partnered for 222 runs in Mirpur in 2010. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane also stitched a 222-run partnership against Bangladesh in 2017.
