IND vs BAN: India's explosive wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is all set to make a highly anticipated return to Test cricket as he has been named in India's squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh.
This marks the completion of his comeback journey, which began earlier this year following a near-fatal car accident in December 2022. After a 15-month break, Pant gradually worked his way back into international cricket, featuring in shorter formats, including the IPL, T20 Internationals, and One-Day Internationals.

Team India's squad for the 1st Test of the Test series against Bangladesh
Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
Pant is poised to return to the longest format of the game, where his natural flair and aggressive approach have made him one of India's most valuable assets. Pant's return will provide a major boost to the Indian team, especially with the first Test scheduled to be held in Chennai on September 19.
While Pant's place in the squad was always expected, his inclusion now raises the question of whether he will immediately return to the playing XI. With Dhruv Jurel impressing during Pant's absence in the series against England, the final call lies with skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Pant's ability to dominate opposition bowlers with his unorthodox stroke play makes him an exciting prospect for India's top order, but the team management will have to decide how they handle his return, given his recent injury history.
Pant's last Test appearance was also against Bangladesh in December 2022, shortly before his car accident sidelined him for over a year. Since his comeback, he has shown glimpses of his trademark aggressive batting, including a solid 61 in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy match against India A, proving that he remains a dangerous threat in the longest format.
While Pant's return will garner most of the headlines, the inclusion of Akash Deep in the squad is another significant development. The 27-year-old pacer has been rewarded for his stellar performances in the Duleep Trophy, where he picked up nine wickets for India A against India B.
His impressive figures of 4 for 60 and 5 for 56 caught the selectors' attention, earning him a spot in the Test squad. With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj leading the pace attack, Akash Deep adds depth, giving India multiple pace options in the upcoming series.
