IND vs BAN: Rohit Sharma loses his calm after India concede two unnecessary extras versus Bangladesh

By Chaithanya Gulapala

Conceding extras such as wides, byes, no-balls or runs via direct throw can be really frustrating for a bowling team. It can be detrimental to the team's performance because you can't afford to give away free runs to the opposition in the first place.

Case in point, Indian captain Rohit Sharma lost his calm after his team conceded two extras in the wake of two direct throws during the ongoing game against the Bangladesh cricket team at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

The drama unfolded during the 31st over when Bangladesh's wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahum nudged Shardul Thakur's delivery towards the backward point in order to bring his partner Towhid Hridoy back on strike.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja sensed a run-out opportunity as he quickly picked up the ball before attempting a direct throw at the stumps. Nevertheless, Towhid safely made it to the crease and then quickly ran for the second since the ball bounced off the stumps.

While this is a common occurrence in cricket, what happened thereafter was a never-before-seen incident in the history of Indian cricket. India's wicketkeeper, KL Rahul picked up the ball and then aimed at the stumps, a throw that was really unnecessary.

Just as when the ball ricocheted off the stumps, Bangladesh stole yet another run. The incident saw Rohit Sharma losing his cool as he looked visibly upset with the players giving away two extras, especially during the important phase of the game.
