IND vs BAN: Sunil Gavaskar gives hilarious reply when asked about advising Bangladesh batters

By MyKhel Staff

Sunil Gavaskar gave a hilarious reply to Athar Ali Khan during the 2nd Test match between India and Bangladesh on Tuesday (October 1).

Despite almost three days of no play, Bangladesh are on the verge of a defeat as India are closing in. In the second innings, the visitors are bundled out for 146 runs and only have a slender lead of 95 runs. With two more sessions to play, the hosts are expected to chase it down with ease and seal a 2-0 series win.

Despite making a steady start to the first session of the day, the Bangladeshi players fell down like a house of cards. Some of their players played some awful shots and got dismissed. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was also dismissed after playing a very poor reverse sweep.

During the Bangladesh inning, Athar Ali Khan asked Sunil Gavaskar at the commentary box what would the India legend advise Bangladeshi batters to deal better in this kind of situation. The India legend then came up with a hilarious reply.

"As an Indian, I would say Get Out," Gavaskar said during commentary.

"I think exactly what Mushfiqur is doing. Batting for four or five deliveries and frustrating the bowlers by taking a single in the final ball. He is experienced and that's the need of the hour. Mushfiqur is trying to delay as much as possible," he added.

Then Gavaskar elaborated in all seriousness and pointed out the mistakes that the Bangladeshi batters made. There were some irresponsible shots by the Bangladeshi batters which directly caused their demise.

"As far as the others are concerned, they forgot this is a Test match. The shots that they played were poor. Shadman after getting a 50, should have gone on to score a hundred. The shot [a reverse sweep] that Shanto played, sometimes reverse sweep looks good when it connects, but when it doesn't you get out," the India legend added.

Mushfiqur, despite Gavaskar's praises moments ago, played a lose shot in the final ball before lunch and got castled by Jasprit Bumrah.
