Tilak Varma made his ODI debut in India's last Super Fours match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday.
The 20-year-old was presented his maiden ODI cap by captain Rohit Sharma and was later congratulated by head coach Rahul Dravid and all his other teammates.

The Hyderabad-born left-hand batting sensation made his T20I debut against West Indies on August 3. He later toured with the Indian T20I side to Ireland. The Mumbai Indians batter impressed one and all with his temperament and stroke play in the West Indies.
His 173 runs in the 5-match series against West Indies paved the way for his selection in India's Asia Cup 2023 squad. Having already qualified for the mega final on Sunday. India opted to give the youngster a debut opportunity.
Tilak Varma hasn't been named in India World Cup 2023 squad, but the management have used the opportunity to test him in the 50-over format. In case there is an injury, Tilak Varma can be inducted in the World Cup squad.
As expected India gave opportunities to all the players who were warming the bench in the tournament so far. Prasidh Krishna and Suryakumar Yadav have also been given opportunity alongside Tilak Varma.
However, Shreyas Iyer's name continued to miss from the starting eleven. There were speculations that he would make a comeback as he batted for a long duration in the optional practice session on Thursday.
He missed out on the first two Super Fours matches for India due to back spasms, but no showed no signs of discomfort during the training. The decision to rest him could be a precautionary one keeping in mind the all-important World Cup 2023 which kick starts from October 5.
