IND vs BAN: Virat Kohli equals his 12-year-old humble Record against Bangladesh
Virat Kohli fell cheaply again in the second innings against Bangladesh on Friday (September 20).
The India batter made a steady start to his 2nd innings. He played a couple of excellent shots but fell to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who got him in bizarre circumstances. Kohli, despite showing promise, departed for only 17 runs facing 37 deliveries.

It hasn't been too costly for India as Kohli faltered again due to Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja's brilliant batting in the first innings. After India posted 376 runs, Bangladesh were skittled for just 149 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show with 4 wickets, while Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja got two wickets each.
India lost Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal cheaply. Kohli had a massive responsibility on his shoulders but his departure means India are 81 for 3 at the end of Day 2 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Kohli, who is playing his first Test on home soil this year, failed to make an impact with the bat. He made only 23 runs across the two innings, thus raising a significant cast of doubt on India's batting prowess.
Virat Kohli equals a 12-year-old Record of his Own
Along with that, Virat Kohli has now also equalled an old record of his, which is a humbling one. Kohli now has failed to score 50+ runs across two innings in three consecutive Test matches against a single opponent.
The Indian batter has struggled against Bangladesh in the last three meetings between the two teams. Kohli has managed only 23 runs against the Tigers in this match, whereas he only scored 20 and 25 runs across two Test matches against Bangladesh in 2022.
Virat Kohli Last 3 Tests vs Bangladesh
1 & 19* - Chattogram (2022)
24 & 1 - Mirpur (2022)
6 & 17 - Chennai (2024)
This is the first time in 12 years that Kohli hasn't been able to breach 50 runs in a Test match for consecutive three Tests when he has batted in both innings. The last time it happened was back in 2012 against England, in the first three matches of a five-match Test series. At that time, the India batter only managed 85 runs across the first six innings of the Test series. He then scored a century in the final match of the series in Nagpur.
Virat Kohli First Three Test Runs vs England in 2012
19 & 14* - Ahmedabad
19 & 7 - Mumbai
6 & 20 - Kolkata
In 2017, Kohli failed to score 50+ runs in a Test match for three consecutive Tests against Australia, but in that series, the batter didn't bat in the 2nd innings of the third Test match in Ranchi.
It is to be seen how the India batter overcomes the lean start to the Bangladesh series. Although India remain in the driver's seat, Kohli's struggle in the first two innings can be an achilles heel.
