IND vs BAN: Virat Kohli Joins Sachin Tendulkar and Cricket Legends in This Elite Club with Historic Milestone

India's star batter, Virat Kohli, has once again etched his name in the history books by joining cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in an exclusive club of international cricketers.

During the second innings of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Kohli became only the fifth batter in cricket history to surpass 12,000 international runs on home soil across formats.

Kohli achieved this remarkable feat when he reached six runs in India's second innings. He now joins the ranks of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Kumar Sangakkara, all of whom have amassed over 12,000 international runs in their respective countries.

Tendulkar leads the chart with 14,192 runs across 258 matches, followed by Ponting with 13,117, Kallis with 12,305, and Sangakkara with 12,043. Kohli is now the second Indian cricketer, after Tendulkar, to reach this prestigious milestone.

Despite this significant achievement, Kohli's performance in the ongoing Test has been somewhat lackluster. He was dismissed for just six runs in the first innings, edging a delivery from Hasan Mahmud.

In the second innings, Kohli appeared to be finding his rhythm and reached 17 runs before being trapped LBW by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. A TV replay later showed that Kohli had faintly edged the ball before it hit his pad, leaving the Indian dugout stunned by his decision not to review the dismissal.

Nonetheless, Kohli remains poised to break more records in the near future. He is just 129 runs away from becoming the fourth Indian batter to score 9,000 Test runs, joining an elite group that includes Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar.

Additionally, Kohli is on the cusp of another major milestone, needing only 35 more runs to become the fourth cricketer in history to score 27,000 runs across all formats of international cricket.

At 35, Kohli continues to be one of India's most dependable players and is expected to remain a key figure for the team until at least the 2027 ODI World Cup. Having recently retired from T20Is after a standout performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
