IND vs BAN: Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes Second-Highest Run-Scorer This Year After Crossing 50 Against Bangladesh

Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his remarkable rise in international cricket, becoming the second-highest run-scorer of 2024 after crossing 50 during the ongoing first Test between India and Bangladesh at Chepauk in Chennai.

Bangladesh's captain won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that paid off initially as India lost key wickets, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. However, Jaiswal held firm at the crease, contributing a crucial 56 runs to stabilize the Indian innings.

Jaiswal has been one of India's standout performers in 2024, consistently delivering impressive performances at the top of the order. He now has almost 800 runs to his name in 2024, solidifying his place as India's most reliable Test batsman this year.

His current tally of 796 runs (after his 56 runs in today's match against Bangladesh) in just seven matches gives him an amazing average of 72.36, which further underlines his importance to the Indian batting lineup.

Joe Root, who leads the overall run-scoring chart for 2024, has amassed 986 runs across 11 matches at an average of 54.77. While Root remains some distance ahead, Jaiswal has a strong chance to close the gap and become the top scorer of the year during this series against Bangladesh.

Jaiswal is now sitting 370 runs behind Root and could challenge for the top spot before the Bangladesh Test ends if his current excellent form continues.

Jaiswal's knock in this match has propelled him to the second spot on the list of highest run-scorers in the current World Test Championship. Before this match, Jaiswal had already accumulated 1,028 runs, tying with England's Ben Duckett for second place.

His latest contribution of 56 runs has pushed him past Duckett, leaving him second only to England's Joe Root, who leads the chart with 1,398 runs in this World Test Championship season.
