IND vs ENG 1st Test: From Rishabh Pant To Ollie Pope- Top 5 Performers From Day 2

IND vs ENG: Day Two of the first Test between India and England at Headingley delivered a spectacle filled with skill, resilience, and drama. India began the day in a commanding position at 359 for 3 and went on to post a formidable 471 in their first innings.

England, in response, found themselves under pressure early, but fought back to end the day at 209 for 3, still trailing by 262 runs.

IND vs ENG

From Rishabh Pant's fearless century to Ollie Pope's patient counterattack, the day was marked by individual brilliance on both sides. Here's a look at the top five standout performers from Day Two:

Rishabh Pant - 134 (178 balls, 12 fours, 6 sixes)

Rishabh Pant lit up the morning session with a typically explosive innings. Starting the day unbeaten, he launched into the English attack with controlled aggression and audacious shot-making. His century - his seventh in Test cricket - came in dramatic fashion, with a one-handed six over long-on off Shoaib Bashir. The celebration was as bold as the innings itself, featuring a trademark somersault. Pant's 209-run partnership with Shubman Gill provided the backbone of India's massive total.

Ollie Pope - 100 (off 131 balls, 13 fours)*

England found themselves in deep trouble after early wickets, but Ollie Pope stepped up with a masterclass in composure and technique. Coming in at 3, Pope survived a dropped catch and an LBW scare early in his innings. Once settled, he played with fluency, using his footwork effectively and punishing anything loose. His unbeaten hundred at stumps, including key partnerships with Ben Duckett and Joe Root, ensured England remained in the contest.

Josh Tongue 4/86 (20 overs)

Tongue pulled off a sensational bowling spell by picking up 4 wickets to derail the Indian express. After the dismissal of Gill and Pant, India lost 7 wickets and scored just 41 runs. 4 of them were scalped by Tongue.

Jasprit Bumrah - 3/48 (13 overs)

Bumrah continued to showcase why he's among the world's best fast bowlers. He set the tone by dismissing Zak Crawley in the very first over with a perfect outswinger. Later, he ended a 122-run partnership by castling Duckett with a delivery that kept low and jagged in. He then removed Joe Root - caught in the slips - marking the 10th time he has dismissed the England veteran in Tests. He even had Harry Brook caught off a no-ball, underlining how unlucky he was not to finish with more than three wickets.

Ben Duckett - 62 (94 balls, 9 fours)

While his contribution may be overshadowed by Pope's unbeaten ton, Duckett's 62 was crucial in stabilizing England's innings. After the early loss of Crawley, Duckett played with intent, rotating the strike and dispatching loose deliveries. His 122-run stand with Pope pulled England out of early trouble. Though he eventually fell to a clever delivery from Bumrah, Duckett's effort was central to England's fightback.
