IND vs ENG: Joe Root etched his name into the record books after he surpassed India's batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar's tally to become the leading run-getter in Tests between India and England.
The former England captain accomplished the feat on Thursday (January 25) i.e. day 1 of the opening Test against Rohit Sharma-led side at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The experienced campaigner has by far accumulated 2555 runs, which puts him at the crest of the list of leading run-scorers in the history of Tests between India and England. Sachin Tendulkar follows next with 2535 runs whereas Sunil Gavaskar and Alastair Cook come next on the list with 2483 runs and 2431 runs respectively.
Root scored 29 runs before he fell prey to Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling, courtesy of excellent captaincy by skipper Rohit Sharma. Root who hit just 1 four against the run of play felt the heat in the attacking field-set. His attempt to score a boundary backfired him in the first place as Jasprit Bumrah took an easy catch.
The experienced campaigner started the innings at a sedate pace by finding the gaps wherein he took singles and converted 1s into 2s, gradually adding runs to his tally. However, he was under pressure for his low strike rate of 48.33 and just as when he tried to break the shackles, he played right into the hands of the opposition.
The right-handed batter, who is known for his sound batting technique such as solid defence, and precise footwork, has time and again proved that he can play both spin and pace bowling effectively. Also Read: IND vs ENG: England given reality check as India take charge on opening day
The Yorkshireman's biggest strength is that he uses his feet well to negate spin, helping him to execute the sweep shot effectively. However, this time around, his attempt to go for a big shot backfired. When he tried to take on the opposition, he played the wrong shot and got dismissed.
A player like Root should stick to his style of play on the Indian pitches rather than the Bazball, something which he is not particularly used to. He has a strike-rate of 56.8 in Tests and by implementing his style, he is certain to pose a serious threat to India in the Test series.
