IND vs ENG 1st Test: Will Rain Play Spoilsport On Day 2?- Weather Forecast

IND vs ENG 1st Test: After a bright and rain-free start to India's first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds, weather concerns loom large heading into Day 2 on Saturday, June 21. The opening day was played under clear skies and warm conditions, allowing India to make the most of a docile pitch and erratic English bowling.

Batting first, India piled up an imposing 359/3 at stumps. Yashasvi Jaiswal dazzled in his debut Test on English soil with a fluent century, while captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant carried the momentum with authoritative knocks. However, Day 2 may not offer the same favourable batting conditions.

IND vs ENG 1st Test

According to weather forecasts, overcast skies and periodic rain are expected throughout Saturday. Though play is likely to begin on time, cloud cover will dominate much of the day, which could work in favour of England's seamers armed with the Dukes ball. In particular, the final session faces the highest chance of disruption, with an 88% probability of rain between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. local time.

The morning and afternoon sessions could also be interrupted by intermittent showers, with around 7.6 mm of rainfall predicted. While a complete washout is unlikely, the presence of overhead conditions and cooler temperatures may significantly influence the day's play and potentially bring an early halt to proceedings.

There's also a thunderstorm alert in place, according to AccuWeather. If heavy showers arrive in the final session, Day 2 might mirror some of the weather-affected India A matches from earlier in the tour.

India will be eager to capitalize on their solid foundation from Day 1, but the potential for rain and swing-friendly conditions may test their lower order. Meanwhile, England's bowlers-who struggled to hit the right lengths under the sun-will hope to make inroads if the clouds offer some assistance.

Whether the weather holds or not, Day 2 is poised to be crucial, and potentially dramatic, in shaping the outcome of this opening Test.
