ngland have announced an unchanged playing XI for the second Test against India, scheduled to start on July 2, 2025, at Edgbaston, following their five-wicket victory in the first Test at Headingley.
The decision reflects the team management's confidence in the lineup that chased 371 runs to secure a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship.

The batting order retains its structure from the first Test. Openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, who shared a 188-run stand in the chase at Headingley, will continue to lead the lineup. The bowling attack also remains unchanged. Chris Woakes leads the seamers, supported by Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue, who took three and four wickets respectively in the first Test. Shoaib Bashir, the sole spinner, provides variety.
Jofra Archer, added to the squad for the series, was considered for selection but will not feature in the XI. Archer missed Monday's training due to a family emergency but is expected to rejoin the team on Tuesday. The management has opted to maintain the current lineup, delaying Archer's potential Test return.
The England XI remains: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and Shoaib Bashir
Although it remains a tricky assumption at the moment, the Indian team is expected to make changes in the side. Despite their batting brilliance, the bowling department struggled and that may see changes. Jasprit Bumrah has been reported to sit out for this match, and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh may get the nod at Edgbaston. In the spin bowling department, Ravindra Jadeja's place hangs in the balance.
The returning Karun Nair and debutant Sai Sudharsan had disappointing outings in Headingley, but the latter is expected to keep his place, while Sai's probabilities are still under consideration. There have been calls for Abhimanyu Easwaran's debut, but he is likely to remain on the sidelines for this match. Harshit Rana, who was roped in as a backup, was also released before the 2nd Test, thus further narrowing India's pace bowling options. Also, Shardul Thakur may face the axe and Nitish Reddy may come in his place. Reddy's arrival gives India an edge in batting, which was a problem for them in the first match.
KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill (c), Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant (wk), Washington Sundar, Nitish Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna
