IND VS ENG 5th T20I: England Overtakes India To Become Number 1 T20I Team In ICC Rankings

IND vs ENG: England has overtaken India to take the number 1 spot in the ICC rankings. The Three Lions showcased yet another masterclass innings courtesy of a 215-run partnership between Jos Buttler and captain Harry Brook. Buttler also registered the highest individual score against India in a T20I.

Asked to bat first, England recovered from the early jolt of Phil Salt's wicket, who was dismissed for a paltry 6 runs. The departure of Salt opened the floodgates of runs for the hosts from captain Harry Brook and former England skipper Jos Buttler. The pair stitched together a record-breaking 215-run partnership for the second wicket, leaving the Indian bowlers with no answers.

Buttler led the carnage with a magnificent 131 off just 64 balls, registering his second T20I century, while Brook remained unbeaten on 95 from only 45 deliveries. Brook also achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first England batter to score over 200 runs in a home bilateral T20I series. Their relentless assault powered England to a daunting 257/3 in 20 overs.

In response to the carnage, India never looked too threatening from the start, even after bringing Sanju Samson back into the playing XI. The only shining light for the visitors was Ishan Kishan, who played an aggressive knock of 56 from 27 balls. Shreyas Iyer also chipped in with a little contribution of 28 runs.

However, wickets at regular intervals derailed the chase as England's experienced spin duo of Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid tightened the screws in the middle overs. India eventually scampered to 201/8, handing England a comprehensive victory and a dominant end to the series.

IND vs ENG: Harry Brook Kept His Eyes On Number 1 Spot

Earlier during the post-match press conference, skipper Harry Brook said, "To beat India 4-0 would be a pretty special series win if I'm being honest. And to go No.1 in the world would be even better. That is our main aim. We want to go out there and try to beat them convincingly again."

Brooks further said, "We've been told if we win the next game, we go to world No.1 and that's definitely a prize that we're eyeing up. India is a strong side. They probably haven't been as good in this series as they have been over the last couple of years, but we're really happy with the way that we've executed our plans."
