The Test series between India and England has come down to the final act, as the two teams are set to meet for the 5th Test at the Oval, starting from Thursday (July 31). And the first day of the match has taken a sabbatical, courtesy of rain.
England hold an advantage with a 2- 1 lead in the series. Shubman Gill's India has shown grit across the series and has the glorious opportunity to level the series with a victory in the final match.

Despite being in the driving seat for the majority of the sessions, the young Indian team has thrown away their advantage, but that has all been a precious learning curve for the team. As the focus now shifts back to London again, the Indian team will be aiming for a turnaround from their Lord's outing recently.
India is expected to make a few strategic changes, including the likely absence of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who showed signs of fatigue in the last match. Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep are expected to lead the Indian pace attack, with Arshdeep Singh potentially making his Test debut.
England, missing their captain Ben Stokes due to a shoulder injury, has named Ollie Pope as captain as they aim to seal the series win. England have also introduced fresh faces like Jacob Bethell, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, and Josh Tongue. England's bowling attack might see some rotation to manage tired bowlers after a long series.
The match on Day 1 will start at 3:30 pm IST, which is 11 am local time in London. There will be a lunch break of 40 minutes, followed by a Tea break of 20 minutes. The match can be extended to 30 minutes beyond scheduled time to facilitate lost overs.
The 2nd session of the Test match has been delayed due to wet outfield and the match is set to resume a bit late. With that, the subsequent breaks and sessions may also have a deferred timeline. If the weather remains fine, the match will now be extended at least till 11 pm IST. India are currently 72 for 2 in the first innings. The new session timings for Day 1 has been announced.
