IND vs ENG 5th Test: From 175/3 to 183/8 - Indian Spinners Led By Kuldeep Yadav Master England Collapse

England have recently made an habit of surrendering their dominance with a sudden collapse, which Ben Stokes' men carried into the fifth Test against India at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday (March 7).

Opting to bat first, England had a decent start, heading into lunch at 100 for 2, losing Ollie Pope at the stroke of the break with Zak Crawley remaining unbeaten on 61. Kuldeep Yadav had claimed the two wickets for India, having earlier dismissed Ben Duckett.

Post lunch, Crawley added another 18 runs to his score batting with Joe Root until he was bamboozled by Kuldeep for 79, ending a 37-run stand. England lost their third wicket with 137 runs on the board.

Jonny Bairstow, who made his 100th Test appearance, shared a small stand with Root of 38 runs before edging one to Dhruv Jurel behind the stumps, triggering a collapse as Stokes, Root, Tom Hartley and Mark Wood followed a procession of wickets within a space of 8 runs.

Root soon followed and took a review with him after being trapped in front of the stumps by Ravindra Jadeja, leaving England at 175/5. Kuldeep completed his five-wicket haul with the leg before dimissal of the England skipper Stokes, who burnt the third review in the very next over.

England lost Bairstow, Root and Stokes without adding a single run to their total. It was later, Ravichandran Ashwin's turn to get among the wickets column in his 100th Test.

Ashwin, who had claimed his 500th Test wicket in the 3rd Test during the ongoing series, removed Tom Hartley and Mark Wood in the same over as England lost their seventh and eighth wickets with 183 on the board.

The visitors, however, didn't lose any more wickets heading into the tea break as Ben Foakes and Shoaib Bashir remained unbeaten 8 and 5 respectively, leaving England on 194/8 in 55 overs at the stroke of tea on day one.

Post the tea break, England added another 24 runs before folding for 218 after Foakes and James Anderson fell to Ashwin in the same over, handing the seasoned spinner figures of 4 for 51 in the first innings of his 100th Test.

Earlier in the morning session, Kuldeep had removed Duckett after a spectacular catch from Shubman Gill, who ran backwards from covers to claim a diving effort. Then at the stroke of lunch, Dhruv Jurel mastered the dismissal of Pope, who was sent back stumped.
