IND vs ENG: Akash Deep breaks 39-year-old Record by 1 Run to become Best India bowler on English Soil

By MyKhel Staff

In a historic moment for Indian cricket, Akash Deep has etched his name into the record books with a sensational performance in the 2nd Test against England/

Akash Deep came into the side replacing Jasprit Bumrah, who missed out the Edgbaston Test for workload management. And after his selection, the fiery pacer has showcased his mettle with a 10-wicket haul in the series.

Akash Deep creates new Record

Akash Deep delivered a remarkable 10/187 across two innings, securing the best match figures by an Indian bowler on English soil. This extraordinary achievement surpassed the previous record held by Chetan Sharma, who claimed 10/188 at the same venue in 1986, by just one run.

Akash Deep's record-breaking spell at Edgbaston was a display of skill, resilience, and precision. His ability to exploit the English conditions, swinging the ball prodigiously and maintaining relentless pressure, left the opposition reeling. He picked up 4 wickets in the first innings, and then came up with a devastating display in the second, picking up 6 wickets as India won the match by a record 336 runs.

Before Akash's heroics, Chetan Sharma's 10/188 stood as a benchmark for nearly four decades. Sharma's performance in 1986 was a masterclass, dismantling England's batting lineup and setting a high bar for Indian pacers in overseas conditions. Close on the list of India's finest bowling figures in England are Jasprit Bumrah's 9/110 at Trent Bridge in 2021 and Zaheer Khan's 9/134 at the same venue in 2007.

As Indian cricket continues to evolve, Akash's Birmingham heroics will be remembered as a defining chapter in the nation's storied Test history. India, with the victory, have levelled the series 1-1 and the next match is at Lord's, starting from July 10.
