IND vs ENG: England Star Faces Possible Sanction Ahead Of 2nd Test Against India

IND vs ENG: Jofra Archer's long-awaited return to red-ball cricket has stirred up both excitement and controversy. After a four-year injury-enforced absence, the England pacer featured for Sussex in their County Championship fixture against Durham, marking his comeback with a steady performance.

Archer bowled 18 overs, picked up one wicket for 32 runs, and chipped in with a handy 31 runs with the bat in the first innings.

However, his return to competitive action has also drawn the attention of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for a potential breach of uniform regulations. During the match at Chester-le-Street, Archer wore black socks-an apparent violation of County Championship rules that require players to wear socks in either white or light grey. The incident could result in disciplinary action, with a fine or formal warning likely.

Despite the minor controversy, Archer is strongly tipped to feature in England's playing XI for the second Test against India at Edgbaston, beginning July 2. The home side is eager to bolster its bowling lineup after India piled up a combined total of 835 runs across both innings in the first Test at Headingley, where England ultimately clinched a five-wicket win.

Archer, who last played a Test for England in 2021 against India in Ahmedabad, has not featured in a home Test since facing Pakistan in Southampton back in 2020. The 30-year-old quick has 42 wickets in 13 Test matches and is regarded as a vital asset when fully fit.

Interestingly, Archer isn't the only player recently involved in a dress code issue. India's captain Shubman Gill also faces a potential penalty after being spotted wearing black socks during the opening Test at Headingley.

Under ICC regulations-specifically clause 19.45 of the Clothing and Equipment Rules-players in Test matches must wear socks that are white, cream, or light grey. Violating this rule could lead to a warning or a deduction of 10 to 20 percent of the match fee. However, if Gill's breach is deemed unintentional or due to extenuating circumstances, he could escape without punishment.

As both teams prepare for the Edgbaston clash, Archer's performance and possible disciplinary outcome will remain under watch. Nonetheless, England will be hopeful that the pace ace can make a meaningful impact as they aim to extend their series lead.
