IND vs ENG: England to play with four spinners to thwart India challenge? Ex-captain gives massive hint

By MyKhel Staff

IND vs ENG: Ahead of the India vs England semi-final 2 of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Guyana on Thursday, June 27, Paul Collingwood has said that England could actually play the match with four spinners.

The conditions in England are expected to help the spinners, and the focus has shifted to the spinners of both the teams ahead of the match. Paul Collingwood has predicted that there were chances of England including four spinners in their playing eleven against India.

He said leader of the pack Adil Rashid can be seen bowling alongside all-rounders Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone and Will Jacks, who has played three matches for England in the T20 World Cup 2024.

"There’s a chance that England could actually go with four spinners themselves. Obviously, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone, who is actually an all-rounder who can bowl leg spin and off-spin. And you never know, if the wickets are so dry, you can go with Will Jacks as well. So, plenty of options, but I think Adil Rashid is on top of his game, and this is the beauty of the World Cup," Collingwood said while speaking exclusively during the Star Sports Press Room.

He also talked about leg-spinner Adil Rashid at length, praising his performance in the ongoing ICC showpiece event. He spoke about Adil Rashid’s importance in the middle overs. Rashid is England's joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Jofra Archer. He has picked nine wickets at an average of 17.88 and an economy rate of 6.70.

"He is a golden nugget for the England cricket team. When he comes on naturally in the sixth over, I think the one thing about Rashid is, his wrong'uns seem to be so difficult to pick. And he's got real good deception," Collingwood said.

"Now in T20 cricket, deception is key. Whether it's slower balls, or being able to turn the ball both ways. And he is looking really comfortable at the moment. Indian batsmen generally play spin very well, but I think Adil Rashid, the way that he is bowling at the moment, we just have to wait and see what the conditions are like.

"You're gonna have a leg spinner now at the top of his game, confident, up against some of the best batters in the world. And that's why it's gonna be such a good spectacle, and we're all down to see it."
