IND vs ENG: Fans hail Rohit Sharma as India captain scores Consecutive Fifties, sympathize with Kohli as well

By MyKhel Staff

Rohit Sharma played yet another fantastic knock with the bat in the T20 World Cup semifinal against England on Thursday (June 27).

The India captain scored a sublime 57 runs off just 39 balls and thus provided India with another strong start as they were put into bat by the England skipper.

India

India lost the wickets of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant very early but it was the skipper who steered the ship with his flamboyant batting. Rohit took the attack to the English bowlers and kept the high-scoring rate. He finally got dismissed for 57 but only after another scintillating knock, this becoming the first Indian captain to score a half-century in T20 World Cup knockouts.

Although Rohit Sharma continued his merry run in this tournament, it was yet another underwhelming day for Virat Kohli. The India stalwart got dismissed only after scoring 9 runs and his poor run continued.

India faced an early setback in the match when Virat Kohli was dismissed in the third over. England's Reece Topley managed to clip the top of Kohli's leg stump with a length ball, ending his innings. This dismissal added to Kohli's challenges in the tournament, as he has been grappling with finding the right balance between aggression and stability.

Kohli briefly demonstrated his potential by hitting a six off a fuller-length delivery from Topley. However, his attempt to repeat the feat led to his dismissal, marking a notable deviation from his usual exceptional performance in the T20 World Cup semi-finals.

And after Rohit's fantastic batting, a section of fans trolled Virat Kohli while others sympathized and praised the intent of the Indian player.

Rohit Sharma is the only Indian captain to score 50+ runs in a T20 World Cup knockout match.

India posted a competitive total after batting first in the semifinal. Suryakumar Yadav played a decent knock while Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja played two superb cameos in the end as they posted 171 runs.
