IND vs ENG: Former India player calls out Gautam Gambhir for 'Mindless Experiment'

By MyKhel Staff

Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh has been highly vocal against India head coach Gautam Gambhir and the Indian team management, calling out them for a 'mindless experiment' in the ongoing ODI series.

India sealed the ODI series against England with another comprehensive win in Cuttack on Sunday (February 9).

India

Rohit Sharma notched up his 32nd ODI century to script a dominant display as the hosts completed a top-notch series victory. Apart from Rohit, the form of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer are also enhancing optimism for the Indian team ahead of Champions Trophy.

KL Rahul has been playing ahead of Rishabh Pant as wicketkeeper and has failed with the bat. The Karnataka batter scored just 10 runs in Cuttack, while managed only 2 runs in Nagpur.

In both occasions, Rahul has batted at no. 6, with Axar Patel being promoted at no. 5. And former India player Dodda Ganesh is livid with this decision. On Sunday, Ganesh took to social media and highly criticized the think tank for demoting Rahul, terming it as a 'mindless experiment'.

"Axar Patel again ahead of KL Rahul? I'm speechless. Does it make any sense to push a genuine batter like Rahul to no 6? When you're 5/3, do you've the courage to send Axar on a tricky pitch? If not, what sense does this experiment make? Absolutely mindless this," Ganesh wrote on X.

Ganesh may have an affinity for the decision, but Axar Patel has served his purpose brilliantly so far. He scored a quickfire 52 runs in the first match and backed that up with another impressive unbeaten 41 in the second encounter.

For KL Rahul, the position change may have played a part but he had ample opportunity to impress in Cuttack but he failed to do so. As the Champions Trophy nears, Rishabh Pant's case may get stronger if he continues to fail in Ahmedabad as well.
